How to share a photo or album
Frequently asked questions: Share photos

Overview

When you invite friends to see your online photos, we send an email invitation to them on your behalf. The email contains:
  • The name of the album(s) shared.
  • Step-by-step instructions on how to view the shared photos.
  • Your personalised message or a default message.
Your friends click on a link within the email, which brings them to the Snapfish website. There, they type in their email address and choose a password. This creates a new account, where your friends will be able to view the photos you invited them to see.

In addition to being able to see the photos you shared, your friends can order their own reprints or enlargements at no cost to you. Sharing photos is entirely free.

How to share a photo or album

To share a photo or album follow these steps:

Share one or more albums
  1. From your main albums page, select one or more albums to share.
  2. Hover over the "Share" button above your albums and click "Share albums" in the menu that appears.
  3. Follow the rest of the steps below under "Choose the recipients".
Share a single photo
  1. From your main albums page, double-click on the album that has the photo you want to share and it'll open.
  2. Click on the photo, then click the share icon that appears just beneath it.
  3. Follow the rest of the steps below under "Choose the recipients".
Choose the recipients
In the pop-up that opens, follow these steps:
  1. Enter new email addresses
In the "To" field, type the email addresses of friends you want to share with. Separate each address with a comma.

  2. Select addresses from your address book
If you want to enter addresses from your Snapfish address book, click the "Address book" link. A pop-up window will appear. Check the recipients you'd like to include, and click the yellow "Choose addresses" button.

  3. Decide whether you'd like a copy of the email
Check the box below the recipients field if you would like to receive a copy of the email sent to your friends.

Note: Your friends will see only their own email addresses in the "To:" portion of the message, not those of the other recipients.

Write a message
When you share a photo or album, we include a standard subject line in the email we send on your behalf. You can write your own greeting that'll be included along with instructions for viewing your photo or album.

Send it to your friends
Click on the yellow button, and we'll email the invitation to the recipients you've chosen. On the page that follows, you can return to your photos by clicking on the "Back to photos" button.

If you share a single photo, we give your friends full access to it, which means they can copy it to their account and re-share it with others.

With whom can I share my photos?
You can share your photos with anyone who has an email address and can see Web pages.

Can I share one photo from an album?
Yes, you can. To share a single photo while viewing your album, click 'Share photos' in the menu on the right side of the page. Then click 'Share this photo.'

Can I share more than one album at a time?
Yes, you can. Learn how to share multiple albums.

Can I share only certain photos from an album, or do I have to share the whole thing?
When you share an album, your friends will see the entire album. However, before sharing an album, you can decide which photos will stay in that album. Learn how to move photos.

The Share invitation email

What does the email invitation look like when my friends receive it?
The 'From' line on the email will be the first and last name on your Snapfish account. The 'To' line on the email will contain only the email address of an individual recipient. Individual recipients of a share email cannot see the email addresses of anyone else who was invited to see your photos.

The 'Subject' line of the email is standardised by default, however, you may overwrite it. The main part of the email will contain the personalised message that you typed in, plus instructions on how to see your photo or album(s) and a link to your photos. It will also contain the first photo in the album you shared.

Will the invitation email tell my invited friends what to do?
The email tells your recipients exactly how to see your pictures. All your recipients have to do is click on the link provided and then type in their email address and choose a password.

Are there any email attachments involved?
There are no attachments to emails sent from the Snapfish website. The pictures your friends see are securely stored in the Snapfish computer system, and they are viewed on the Snapfish website.

Can I write a personal message or change anything in the album invite?
Yes, you may personalise the subject line and main message that will be sent to your recipients when you invite them to see your photos. The instructions on how to see your photos cannot be changed.

What do I do if I decide I do not want to share?
If you have not already clicked 'Share these albums', just click the 'Cancel' button. The invitation email will not be sent.

How do I know that the invitation was sent?
You will see a confirmation page that contains the name of the albums and the list of email addresses from the invitation. You can also choose to receive a copy of the email by checking the 'Send me a copy' box below the message field during the sharing process.

After sharing

Once I have shared photos, what can my friends do with them?
By signing in to Snapfish using an email address and a password, your friends can see the album, order prints and photo gifts, and share the album with whomever they choose. Your friends cannot move, edit, re-caption, or delete the photos within your album. Only you can make changes to your album.

Can people I share with order reprints? Who pays for them?
Can people I share with order reprints? Who pays for them?

What do you do with the email addresses of people I share with?
The email addresses are added to your Snapfish Address Book, so you can share albums again without having to re-type email addresses. Snapfish never uses these email address in any other way.

Making changes to a shared album

If I share an album and then make changes to it, can my friends see the changes?
Yes. You still own your album; your recipients just have an invitation to see it. If you want to add photos to an album, update photo captions, etc., your invited recipients will see these changes in your album.

When I share an album, can other people make changes to it?
No. Only the album's original owner can make changes to the album.

If I share an album and then to delete it, can invited friends still see the album in their accounts?
No. After you delete an album, your invited friends will no longer be able to see it.

I have shared an album but do not want anyone to see it anymore. What can I do?
If you have already shared an album with friends, the only way you can prevent them from seeing it is to delete it. In order not to lose your photos, just move all the photos into a new album and then delete the old, empty album.

Privacy

Why do my friends have to sign up when I share my pictures with them?
When we ask your friends to create their own accounts, we ensure the privacy and security of your photos.

When I share with someone, do they have access to my account and other albums?
Absolutely not! When you share an album with a friend, only that specific album can be seen by your friend. The photos are viewed in your friends'' own password-protected account on the Snapfish site.

Can the public see my photos?
No. The only people who see your photos are the people who receive an email invitation from you. People who receive an email invitation from you can also invite friends to view these photos by sending an email invitation.
