Frequently Asked Questions: Fix and enhance photos
Overview
|
Before you print or share your photos, you can fix it, crop it, and add borders and tints. With Snapfish's editing and enhancing features, you can:
|
|
|
After using one photo fix option, you can choose to use the other options in the same session. For example, after cropping a photo, you can then correct its colour.
|
|
When you are happy with the changes you have made, click on the 'Done editing' button. We will save the corrected photo with a slightly different caption (for example, "mum's birthday"). You can then order prints or return to your photos and select another photo to fix.
|
|
If you want to discard all your changes and begin again, click on the 'Cancel' button at the top or bottom of the page. A fresh copy of your original will replace the photo you have been working on.
|
|
Important: If you have shared an album, and then edited photos within it, your friends will see the fixed copies--unless you move them into another album.

To begin editing or enhancing a photo, follow these steps:

Save your changes
|
Before you learn how to fix and enhance your photos, it is important to understand how these photos are saved in your account
|
|
The default method is 'Save and replace,' which saves the edited photo as a replacement of the version you had when you started. If you would prefer to save the edited version as a copy, follow the instructions below.
|
|
In every 'Fix and enhance' session, you can select how your edited photo will be saved. When you are happy with the changes you have made, choose one of the following options (located to the right of the thumbnail version of your photo):
|
|
|
'Save and replace' is the default saving method; it should be selected for you. When you 'Save and replace,' the version that is saved in your album is the version you have just edited. This version takes the place of the previous version, the one that you brought into the 'Fix and enhance' tool.
|
|
When you 'Save as a copy,' Snapfish creates a copy and saves the edited photo with a slightly different caption (for example, "mum's birthday(2)"). Your photo album will contain both editions of the photo -- and more if you create additional copies.
|
|
Finally, click on the 'Done editing' button. You can then order prints or return to your photos and select another photo to fix.
|
|
If you want to discard all your changes and begin again, click on the grey 'Cancel' button at the top or bottom of the page. A fresh copy of your original will replace the photo you have been working on.
|
|
Important: If you have shared an album, and then edited photos within it, your friends will see the fixed copies -- unless you move them into another album.

Undo your changes
On every 'Fix and enhance' page, you can undo your changes. Click on the 'Undo changes' link next to the buttons to undo your most recent changes. You can also use the 'Revert to original' tab to erase any edits you have made since you first uploaded your photo. You will see the version of the photo that you first uploaded.
Remove red-eye
Red-eye often appears in photos taken with a flash. The 'Remove red-eye' tool neutralizes the red, while retaining original eye colour as much as possible.
- From your photo organiser, double-click on the album that has the photo you want to edit.
- Select the photo you would like to edit.
- On the following page, you will see the photo you selected and various icons and tabs/edit options next to it.
- Click on the 'Fix' tab to the right of your photo.
- Click on the 'Remove red-eye' icon.
- Then, click on the red-eye area of the photo to correct.
- Repeat for each eye you want to fix.
- Check your results by clicking 'Before/After.'
- The change will be applied unless you click on 'Start over' at the bottom of the box or 'Revert to original photo'.
Crop
To crop your photos, follow these steps:
- From your photo organiser, double-click on the album that has the photo you want to edit.
- Select the photo you would like to edit.
- On the following page, you will see the photo you selected and various icons and tabs/edit options next to it.
- Click on the 'Fix' tab to the right of your photo.
- Click on the 'Crop' icon.
- Select the orientation you want to use.
- Click and drag the corners of the cropping symbol that appears over your photo until you have outlined the areas to crop.
- Note: You can also auto-crop your photo for a specific print size. Click the size crop tool link under the crop tab, then select the print size you want.
- If you're happy with your edits, choose whether you want to save the edited photo as a copy or a replacement for the original. Click 'Undo Changes' to revert to your original photo.
- When you're Done editing your photo, click the 'Done editing' button to save your changes or 'Cancel' to cancel your edits.
Correct colour
Snapfish's colour corrector uses a standard, automated formula to adjust brightness, contrast, colour balance, and intensity. It can greatly improve the accuracy of your photo's colour.
- From your photo organiser, double-click on the album that has the photo you want to edit.

- When you use auto contrast, Snapfish's contrast corrector will adjust your photo for the best possible colour contrast.
- The corrected colour will remain unless you click 'Revert to original photo'.
Fill flash
If your photo has dark areas, you may want to use 'Fill flash' to brighten them up. 'Fill flash' spreads light to dark areas of your photo without over-lightening other areas.

- Select the photo you would like to edit.
- On the following page, you will see the photo you selected and various icons and tabs/edit options next to it.
- Click on the 'Fix' tab to the right of your photo.
- Click on the 'Fill flash' icon.
- Click on 'Strong' or 'Moderate' to choose the intensity of the flash.
- The flash-corrected photo will remain unless you click 'Revert to original photo'.
Add a tint
Have fun with your photos by applying a tint. Snapfish offers a variety of tints, including sepia (to "age" your photo) and black and white.
- From your photo organiser, double-click on the album that has the photo you want to edit.
- Select the photo you would like to edit.
- On the following page, you will see the photo you selected and various icons and tabs/edit options next to it.
- Click on the 'Fun' tab to the right of your photo.
- Click on the tint that you would like to apply.
- You can keep clicking on tints until you find the one you like best.

- You can keep clicking on borders until you find the one you like best. Use the dropdown menu to see borders from other categories.
- The border will remain unless you click 'Remove border' at the bottom of the box.
Frequently Asked Questions: Fix and enhance photos
|
Why can't I fix some photos?
Only the person who originally created an album can edit the photos within it. Albums you own are generally displayed in the top section of your Photo Library (on the Photos tab). Your albums are created when you create an album as a destination for photos you upload, move, or copy. You can fix or delete any photos within your own albums. The albums your friends and family have shared with you are displayed in the bottom section of your Photo Library. You cannot fix the photos within these albums. However, you can copy the photos into your own album, and then fix them. When I fix or enhance a photo, do I change the original? No. Whenever you edit or enhance a photo, you are working on a copy. If you select 'Save as a copy' (located toward the lower right corner of the page), you will be able to view both versions in your album. However, if you select 'Save and replace' (or allow the website to select the default for you, which is 'Save and replace), the new, edited copy will be saved in your album, and your original photo will not be visible. To view your original, return to 'Fix and enhance' and click 'Revert to original. Can I fix or enhance friends' photos? To fix a photo from a friend's album, you must first copy it to one of your own albums. Then use the fixing and enhancing features as described above. Can I use red-eye removal to correct white flash reflection? No. This tool works only with the colour red. What do I do if the red-eye tool does not remove all of the red? Sometimes it takes a few clicks. Keep clicking on the red area until all of the red is gone. Can I change my crop later, or have I lost the cropped part of my picture permanently? If you would like to have your original photo readily available to re-crop (or fix and enhance in any other way), the easiest way is to always choose 'Save as a copy' (located near the lower right corner of every 'Fix and enhance' page). If you choose 'Save and replace,' your original will still be available, but it will not be visible in your album. To view it, return to 'Fix and enhance' and click 'Revert to original.' This will undo the entire history of edits on this photo. NOTE: If you delete your original photo, it will not affect your cropped picture, but you will no longer be able to re-crop or fix the original. |
